Sloan's Lake Park

In 1861, homesteader and cattle rancher Thomas F. Sloan dug a well and inadvertently tunnelled into a spring. Water from the spring flooded 200 acres of land. "Sloan's Leak," as it was jokingly called then, developed into a popular recreational spot, especially for boating and sightseeing. Sloan's Leak became Sloan Lake park in 1906. The popular amusement park, Manhattan Beach, and later Luna Park, entertained Denverites until 1914. Today the lake is smaller (only 177 acres), but still provides terrific recreational opportunities. Visitors can enjoy the playgrounds, basketball courts, football, soccer and basefall fields, tennis courts, picnic areas and of course, boating on the lake.
